About Roof Policy

What This Site Is

Roof Policy is an independent educational resource that explains how roof insurance works for Gulf Coast homeowners. The articles, guides, and calculators on this site cover hurricane deductibles, claims processes, non-renewal procedures, FORTIFIED roofing programs, and state-specific insurance rules for Florida, Alabama, and Mississippi.

Everything here is written in plain English. Insurance policies are dense, jargon-heavy documents designed for adjusters and underwriters. This site translates that language into something a homeowner can actually use to make decisions.

What This Site Is Not

Not an insurance company. We do not sell, underwrite, or bind insurance policies.
Not a law firm. Nothing on this site constitutes legal advice. If you have a legal dispute with your carrier, consult an attorney licensed in your state.
Not a public adjuster service. We do not inspect properties, estimate damages, or negotiate claims on your behalf.
Not a roofing contractor website. This is not a place to request a quote or schedule a roof replacement. It is an educational resource first.

Why We Built This

Your insurance company is not going to explain your options to you. Their job is to process claims according to policy language. Neither is a contractor who wants to sell you a roof going to walk you through the financial math of your deductible structure versus your premium trajectory.

Gulf Coast homeowners face a set of insurance challenges that do not exist in most of the country. Hurricane deductibles that can reach five figures. Wind pools that only cover part of the risk. FORTIFIED programs that can reduce premiums but cost money upfront. Non-renewal notices that arrive with as little as 60 days to find new coverage.

Most of the information available online is either too generic to be useful or too sales-driven to be trustworthy. This site exists to fill that gap with state-specific, math-forward content that helps homeowners understand what they're actually dealing with.

Insurance Education Disclaimer

This site provides insurance education, not insurance advice. We do not sell insurance, adjust claims, or provide legal counsel.

Your specific coverage, deductibles, and options depend on your individual policy. Carrier practices vary, and policy language controls. The information on this site reflects general principles and state-level rules as of publication. Always verify information with your insurance agent or carrier before making decisions.

Insurance laws and carrier practices change. We update content regularly, but we cannot guarantee that every detail reflects the most current regulations in your state at the moment you read it.

Editorial Approach

Plain English, always. If a concept can be explained without jargon, it will be. When technical terms are unavoidable, they are defined in context.

State-specific, not generic. A hurricane deductible in Florida works differently than a named-storm deductible in Alabama. Generic advice is worse than no advice when the details depend on your state.

Show the math. When we discuss deductible exposure or coverage gaps, we include calculations based on real numbers. Vague warnings about "being underinsured" are not useful. Showing that a 5% hurricane deductible on a $400,000 home means $20,000 out of pocket — that is useful.

No exaggerated savings claims. We do not promise specific dollar amounts you will save. Premium impacts depend on your carrier, your property, your claims history, and your location. We explain the factors; you run the numbers with your agent.

Coverage Area

This site focuses on three Gulf Coast states where roof insurance is most complex and most consequential: the Florida Panhandle, Coastal Alabama, and South Mississippi. These regions share hurricane exposure but have different insurance regulations, deductible structures, wind pool systems, and homeowner protections.

Content is organized by state so you can find the rules that apply to you without sorting through information that does not. Each state hub covers that state's deductible triggers, non-renewal timelines, wind pool details, FORTIFIED incentives, and claims procedures.
